Like a squirrel gathering too many nuts, I have a tendency to over-accumulate.
Sure, we all have real-world financial needs. We’ve got to pay the rent, put food on the table, buy little Herman his tap-dance lessons, and purchase that 12th guitar. But maybe I’m buying a lot of this stuff for the wrong reason. Are these essential possessions that I can’t do without, or am I just filling a perceived void by swallowing the marketing bait? Whatever the reason that I buy, one thing is certain: I’m drowning in a ton of useless crap.
|
I’ve come to the realization that I should simplify my life, change my buying habits, and get rid of all the possessions that are tying me down. So I’m shedding my skin and donating all the goods that I really don’t need. With my newfound liberation, I might even wave my arms in the air and run through the streets naked. Of course, we’re not talking about all those guitars that are absolutely essential. . . .
Sliver Park
Videos from Sliver Park
The world’s getting smaller. Our instant access to digital media, the Internet, social networks, and cell phones makes the future look wide open, as though there’s nothing we can’t do. But every positive has an equal negative. The poor are often left behind without access to the skills and support they need to move ahead. Animals are being crowded out of existence, forests are getting leveled, and as we boldly move forward, we’re destroying the very neighborhoods that we call home.
But it’s not too late. Let’s take a step back and rethink our priorities. After all, we all live in SLIVER PARK. |
Laugh Out Loud
was written in the “good ole days,” a few years ago. At that time, about all we had to be concerned with was the political nonsense. Times have changed, and believe me, I’m not trivializing the world nightmare of the virus; we all have been deeply affected and know friends and loved ones that have gotten gravely ill or passed on. That’s why it’s so important to keep safe, keep our perspective, and keep our sense of humor. Maybe laughter is part of the armor we need to get us through trying times like these. Laughter might just be the best medicine after all. |
Lately I’m preoccupied with water . . .
whether it’s creating the perfect ice cube for my drink or agonizing over the melting polar ice caps. As days fly by, seasons fade, and years stumble on, water remains the magic elixir that keeps it all going. Its oceans occupy the majority of our planet, and life on our small sphere relies on it. Mysteriously adaptable, ever-changing, flexible, and powerful. Just as love and understanding are essential to us, so is water, indispensable and vital. I want to be like water.
Now available everywhere.

Everyone's affected by the place in which they live, and I'm no exception. NYC is a special place filled with light, love, garbage, and rats. Who wouldn't want to call it home? We try to sleep a majority of our lives, and that's on a good night. So get up to the plate and swing for the stars. Once awake, who can really know what will happen? Watch the video now. |
Man and Nature. Man against Nature.
It’s a battle as old as time itself, not to mention the inner turmoil that we can dream up for no apparent reason. The constant fights within ourselves—good against evil, happy against sad. The white-knuckle hand-wringing that has made us what we are today. And what are we? I, for one, am in a constant state of flux, in a transition toward the light?
Who can really say?
Like a dog chasing its tail, we’d be better off just leaving ourselves alone. But this is the plight of man. Chain me to a fence, and I’ll do whatever it takes to get free. Even if not physically chained, we put ourselves through mental gymnastics that can be just as destructive. So let’s stop and take a breath and look at all that we’ve accomplished.
Maybe today doesn’t suck after all.
Human Nature is now available wherever music lives.
Good and bad, give and take, push and pull, whatever you call it, New Yorkers are full of contradictions. On the one hand, we’re arrogant, loud, and obnoxious. On the other, we’re passionate, energetic, type “A” personalities. You’ve got to admit that this is a recipe for making some interesting characters, and for the music on New York Fool. Well, they say the first step to solving a problem is acknowledging that you have one. The thing is, New Yorkers don’t think of it as a problem. A lifestyle, a choice, maybe even a calling. I could change, I really could … |
